SUBJECT: West Avenue Bridge Project .Development and Environment Study Alternatives Workshop
This Letter to the Commission (LTC) is to inform the Mayor and City Commissioners that potential
alternatives for a low -level bridge over the Collins Canal at West Avenue have been developed as part
of the West Avenue Bridge Project Development and Environment (PD &E) Study. The bridge concepts
include alternative bridge widths comprised of various lanes, sidewalks and bike lanes. .A no -build
alternative, in which no bridge is constructed and only minor, improvements to traffic signals, pavement
markings, signage, and low -cost changes to the streets'and sidewalks in the area are made is also a.:,'.
part of the evaluation. -
The bridge alternatives, and the no -build option, will be presented to the public at a workshop on
Tuesday, November 15, 2011, from 6 p.m: to 8 p.m. at the Miami. Beach Regional Library, 227 22
Street, Miami Beach, Florida 33139. During the workshop, maps, drawings and other project
information will be available for review and the public will have the opportunity to ask questions and
provide comments to the project team.
Community outreach is underway to inform the impacted public and to generate attendance at .the
workshop. Elected and appointed officials, property owners, business owners, residents, homeowner
associations and other special interest groups will receive a letter of invitation. Flyers will be delivered
door -to -door and the attached display advertisement will run in the Miami Herald in advance. of the
meeting.
After the November 15 public workshop, City staff will be scheduling briefings with each of you to
review in detail the design alternatives and the public input received.
