SUBJECT: Arts in the Parks presents Metropolitan Opera's HD "Carmen"
On Thursday, August 9, 2012, the City's Arts in the Parks program will present a free
- screening of the Metropolitan Opera's HD broadcast of Bizet's "CARMEN," on the wall at
SoundScape at 9:00 p.m. In case of rain the screening will take place inside the main
hall of the New World Center.
The'Met's series of HD-opera broadcasts in commercial cinemas has been extremely
popular for the past few, years. The Tourism and Cultural Development (TCD)
Department approached the Met last year to try to arrange regular screenings at
SoundScape, but the Met's prior contracts with Regal and other cinemas in the area
prohibit - competing free screenings. After discussion the Met agreed to allow us' one
date in the month of August. TCD continues to search for partnerships for Arts in the
Parks programming throughout the year.
