SUBJECT: Upcoming Filming Impacts in Miami Beach
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of a film shoot taking place this Sunday,
August 12 ", from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Although the actual filming takes place entirely in the City of Miami
jurisdiction, five - minute traffic holds on the MacArthur Causeway in both directions will impact our
residents and visitors.
Fox's "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters," a feature film sequel in its family franchise, will be filming a
scene of a solitary car without any nearby boat or car traffic on the big bridge, on the Miami side of the
MacArthur Causeway, FDOT, City of Miami, FAA, and the tunnel project have all approved this use,
and are allowing a maximum of five - minute traffic holds in both directions, at the mainland, and on
Watson Island. The shot will be filmed from a low- flying helicopter. They expect to need to do this twice
at sunset, releasing traffic in- between takes. We are requiring the production to use Variable Message
Signs starting on Friday. We are also sending information about the traffic impacts to residents on the
directly affected islands, and through the City's e- blasts and social media alerts.
Additionally, on Monday, August 13 ", Fox/USA's "Burn Notice" will be filming at the Bass Museum and
in Collins Park, 22 Street will be closed to accommodate a simulated car explosion and controlled
fire. Police and Fire personnel will be present at all times, along with staff from the City's film office. The
Bass Museum, Miami City Ballet, Miami Beach Regional Library and the Collins Park Neighborhood
Association have all signed off on this production.
As with all productions, the City's film office works to ensure all affected residents and businesses are
properly noticed and that the productions are monitored as needed.
