• SUBJECT: Intersection Closure– South Pointe Drive and Washington Avenue
The - purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide you with information on an intersection
__closure due to construction by the Miami -Dade County Water and Sewer Department (WASD) .
.of the emergency by -pass force main in the South Pointe Neighborhood.
Miami -Dade County Water and Sewer Department (WASD) is installing a 60 -inch diameter force
main from a shaft in South Pointe Park, north on Wash ington'Avenue, and west on Commerce
Street to connect to an existing force main on Alton Road. (Attachment A)
WASD will_ be installing the section of the force main across South Pointe Drive beginning
Monday, October 8, 2012 This will necessitate the closure of the southbound lanes of
Washington Avenue through the intersection of South Pointe Drive. Eastbound and westbound
traffic on South Pointe Drive need to detour around Washington Avenue using 1S Street.
Upon consultation with Joe's Stone Crab, it has been determined that its , valet operations will
operate more efficiently and safely - by limiting Washington Avenue traffic to one -way northbound
between South Pointe Drive and Commerce Street. Between Commerce Street and 1S Street,•
southbound traffic will be limited to deliveries, garbage pick -up, and emergency vehicles.

Miami -Dade Transit has been advised, and will be temporarily revising its bus routes.
It is anticipated that WASD will have the intersection restored three weeks after it begins work.
