The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to invite you to our Miami Beach Parks & Recreation
Department's upcoming events.
Friday Night Movie at the Bandshell — On Friday, November 30 7:00 pm, the North Shore Park
Bandshell will feature "The Amazing Spiderman ", Rated PG -13 as part of the Friday Night Movie series.
Upcoming Movies:
• November 30 - The Amazing Spiderman, PG -13 • December 21 - Gremlins, PG
• December 14 - Hunger Games, PGA 3 • December 28 - Edward Scissorhands, PGA 3
Special Olympics — On Saturday, December 1 the Miami Beach Parks and Recreation is proud to
once again host the Miami -Dade County Special Olympics Local Games Basketball Competition at the
North Shore Park and Youth Center. Over 120 athletes will compete in the Local Games from all over
Miami -Dade County. The City of Doral, City of Hialeah, City of Miami and Miami -Dade Leisure Access will
be on board for the competition. Each athlete will compete individually in skill challenges and in "3 on 3"
team and "5 on 5" team challenges in basketball. The athlete's scores at the local games will be tallied
with high scorers being invited to compete at the Special Olympics State Games for an opportunity to
earn Gold, Silver or Bronze medals.
Winter Wonderland —On Friday, December 6 the North Shore Park and Youth Center will present its
8 Annual Winter Wonderland from 6:00 p.m. — 9:00 p.m. Miami Beach residents and guests will witness
the largest "Snow Village" on Miami Beach, filled with rides, food, games, and our famous 50 TONS OF
SNOW! Mr. & Mrs. Claus will visit from the North Pole to take pictures with everyone. In addition,
children from the Parks & Recreation after school programs will entertain the audience with special
performances. Residents will have a taste from local restaurants that will be participating in the event
(Burgers & Shakes, El Rancho Grande and Sazon Cuban Cuisine).
Bowling Nights for the Visual Impaired — On Friday, December 14 the Parks and Recreation
Department's Special Populations program will host their final "Bowling Nights" for the visual impaired, at
the Scott Rakow Youth Center from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Participants will not only have a chance to
better their bowling skills, but an opportunity to socialize and have a good time.
Senior Holiday Party — On Tuesday, December 18 the Parks and Recreation Department and the
Miami Beach Convention Center, managed by Global Spectrum, will be hosting a Holiday Party for senior
citizens of Miami Beach at the Convention Center, Hall D Ballroom, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Seniors will
have an opportunity to mingle and meet new friends, as well as enjoy an evening of food, fun and
dancing while celebrating the holidays. To add to the fun, Mr. & Mrs. Claus will make a special
appearance.
