SUBJECT: 2012 South Beach International Amateur Golf Tournament
The Administration is pleased to inform you that the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation
Department, in partnership with Professional Golf Management (PCM), the City's golf management
company, will be hosting the second "South Beach International Amateur Golf Tournament (SBIA) on
Sunday, December 16 through Friday, December 21 2012, at the Miami Beach and Normandy
Shores Golf Clubs. The Co- Chairmen of this amateur championship will be the world famous golf
instructor Jim McLean and Johnny LaPonzinna, past President and Hall of Fame Inductee of the South
Florida Professional Golf Association (PGA).
The 2011 South Beach International Amateur became the highest ranked inaugural amateur golf
tourment in the history of world tournament rankings (#47 worldwide) and it is projected that, based on
the strength of this year's field, the tournmament will move into the "Top 30" in the worldwide rankings.
In 2011, the starting field of contestants was comprised of 166 qualified amateurs, including 28 of the
"Top 600 ", from 14 countries. The 2012 starting field will be made up of 198 qualified amateurs with
handicaps of three or less, including 50 of the "Top 600" representing 24 countries. It should also be
noted that the event had a waiting list of 60 golfers who were not able to participate due to a full field.
After the prelimary rounds on Tuesday and Wednesday, the top seventy -two (72) players, plus ties,
move on to the final two rounds at the Miami Beach Golf Club. The 2011 SBIA generated over 700
hotel room nights, and it is anticipated this number will exceed 900 this year.
The following is a schedule fo this exciting tournament:
SOUTH BEACH INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR — TOURNAMENT ITNERARY
• Sunday December 16 — Practice rounds begin at 10:00 am at both courses.
• Monday, December 17 — Practice rounds at both courses
• Tuesday, December 18 — Round 1 tee times begin at both courses at 7:30 A.M.
• Wendnesday, December 19 — Round 2 tee times at both courses at 7:30 A.M.
• Thursday, December 20 — Round 3 tee times at the MBGC, 8:00 A.M.
• Friday, December 21 — Round 4 tee times at MBGC, 8:00 A.M.
• Awards Ceremony at approximately 4:30 P.M. at the MBGC
Please note, beginning Sunday, December 16 through Wednesday, December 19, 2012, both golf
courses will be closed for play by the club members and general public. The Normandy Golf Club will
reopen on December 20 on a regular schedule, and the Miami Beach Golf Club will reopen for
member and public play on Saturday, December 22, 2012.
