PARTICIPATION ON MARCH 23,2013; URGING OTHER MUNICIPALITIES TO REGISTER
AND PARTICIPATE IN EARTH HOUR.
Attached for your information, is Village of Biscayne Park Resolution 2012 -65, relating to Earth Hour
participation on March 23, 2013.
The purpose of Earth Hour is to draw attention to climate change and to encourage people, communities,
municipalities and nations to address the issue and make proactive changes. This yearthe signature annual
event, when people and municipalities turn off the lights for an hour, is scheduled for Saturday, March 23,
2013, between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
The Village of Biscayne Park is requesting that other municipalities register and participate in Earth Hour.

9 MARCH 23, 2013; URGING OTHER MUNICIPALITIES
10 TO REGISTER AND PARTICIPATE IN EARTH HOUR;
11 PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

14 WHEREAS,Earth Hour is an annual international event that since its inception,has been
15 associated with the World Wildlife Fund; and,
16 WHEREAS, the purpose of Earth Hour is to draw att6ntion to climate change and to
17 encourage people, communities, municipalities and nations to address the issue and make
18 proactive changes; and,
19
20 WHEREAS,this year the signature annual event, when people and municipalities turn off
21 the lights for an hour,is scheduled for March 23, 2013 between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.; and,

23 WHEREAS, according to the Earth Hour website, in 2012, more than 6950 cities and
24 town across 152 countries and territories participated in Earth Hour; and,
25
26 WHEREAS, to date only one municipality, located in Broward County, has registered to
27 participate in Earth Hour; and,
28
29 WHEREAS,the Mayor and Village Commission have directed the Village administration
30 to register for participation in Earth Hour, the Village shall participate in providing information
31 to Village residents to participate and will attempt to make this "Hour" a community event with
32 activities; and,

34 WHEREAS, the Mayor and Village Commission urge the Florida League of Cities, the
35 counties and municipalities of Florida to participate in the Earth Hour event scheduled for March
36 23,2012; and,

38 WHEREAS, during the "hour" participants shall turn off the lights in support of Earth
39 Hour; and,
40
41 WHEREAS, the Mayor and Village Commission desire to participate in Earth Hour on
42 March 23, 2012 between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. and urge other municipalities and counties in
43 Florida to participate as well.

45 NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Commission of the Village of Biscayne Park,
46 Florida that:

48 Section 1. The above whereas clauses are incorporated by reference.

1 Section 2. The Clerk is authorized to register the Village's participation in Earth Hour
2 2013.

4 Section 3. The Clerk is authorized to distribute a copy of this resolution to the
5 Florida League of Cities, and to local municipalities and Miami-Dade County to encourage their
6 participation in Earth Hour 2013.

8 Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval.
