SUBJECT: MBCC RFQ Phase II Meetings Update
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform-the Commission of the
meetings held to date related to the MBCC RFQ Phase II process.
An LTC was issued on January 7, 2013, outlining the schedule of Phase II public
community meetings that would take place as part of the master planning process.
Subsequently, the Administration and Strategic Advisory Group (SAG - the City's
consultant) have conducted individual Developer Kick -Off meetings with South Beach
ACE on January 8, and Portman CIVIC on January 9.
The purpose of the Kick -Off meetings was to review the Phase II schedule, Master Plan
product deliverables, Letter of Intent (LOI) content outline, and potential public funds
available. In addition to the regularly scheduled public meetings, we also encouraged
the Proposers on their own to reach out to the community and the City Commission to
gather additional input.
At the conclusion of the Kick -Off meetings, each Proposer toured the entire Convention
Center facility with their design team along with MBCC management, City staff, and
SAG. The walk- through provided each team an opportunity to get another close look at
the building, and ask any questions of the center management.
Looking ahead, the teams will be preparing for the first Community Meeting scheduled
for January 29, 2013 at the Convention Center. The meeting will be extensively
advertized using City's communication tools including, but not limited to, e- blasts, MB
Magazine, MBTV, social media, the City's website, weekly meeting notices, and more.
Furthermore, MB Currents / MB Al Dia segments have been taped and are currently .
airing on MB77 and the first article regarding the Convention Center will be published in
the Winter 2013 edition of MB Magazine.
