Brooks, Interim City Manager DATE: February 6, 2013 SUBJECT: Parks & Recreation's Past and Upcoming Events This Letter to Commission is provided to update you on activities at our Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department. Arts for Learning - On Thursday January 24 the Scott Rakow Youth Center's Arts for Learning Program hosted its 4 Annual Youth Art Exhibition. The theme was "Made in Miami ". The children displayed their artwork and had a wonderful time sharing their work with family and friends. During the 14 -week program, organized by Arts for Learning, the children worked with pencils, color pencils, oil pastels, markers, collages and acrylic paints. COMING UP... Black History Night - On Friday, February 8 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., the North Shore Park and Youth Center will present their annual Black History Night. After - school participants will perform various ethnic and urban dances. A food - tasting booth will be serving Soul, Southern and Haitian delicacies free of charge to attendees. Come and celebrate the African American culture, as it will be a festive and educating evening to enjoy. Cupid's Carnival - On Friday, February 15 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Flamingo Park will make you fall in love with their Valentine's festivities at their Cupid's Carnival. There will be an array of free entertainment, arts & crafts and rides. This event is geared for all ages. Bandshell Movie Night - On Friday, February 15 7:00 pm, the North Shore Park Bandshell will feature "Iron Man 2 ", Rated PG -13 as part of the Friday Night Movie series.
