SUBJECT: Gun Buy Back Program — Event Scheduled on March 30, 2013
This Letter to the Commission is transmitted to inform that the City of Miami Beach Gun
Buy Back event has been scheduled for Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Miami Beach
Convention Center Hall D (lobby area). The event will begin at 10 a.m. through 2 p.m.,
and parking for participants will be available at the P -Lot across the street from the
Miami Beach Convention Center.
The intent of the Gun - Buy -Back program is to make the streets of Miami Beach safer by
getting guns off the streets, incentivizing the exchange of guns for gift cards. The value
of the gift card provided to participants will be dependent on the type of firearm
surrendered. The amount will range from $25 for a revolver to $300 for an assault rifle.
The Miami Beach Police Department will coordinate this effort with police officers
providing security and traffic control.
A public information campaign has been launched via local print and electronic media
outlets. The campaign will be directed to Miami Beach residents and business owners;
however, it will certainly reach Miami -Dade and Broward County residents as well. A
flyer noticing and describing the event has been created, and will be distributed to
Homeowners Associations and other organizations city -wide. A copy of the flyer is
attached for your information. A public service announcement regarding the event will
air on MBTV -77 to promote the event, and dissemination of event information via City of
Miami Beach social media sites as Facebook and Twitter will be ongoing.

To encourage participation, persons wishing to exchange guns will not be required to
give their name, address, provide identification, nor give an explanation as to how they
came in contact with the firearm. However, to participate, guns must be delivered
unloaded in a bag or other container, and if coming to the event by car, the gu - imLm be
transported in the trunk.
