LTC # 114 -2013 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and M ambers the City Commission FROM: Jimmy-L. Morales, City Manager DATE: April 5, 2013 SUBJECT: Miami Beach Police Department CALEA Re- Accreditation with Excellence On March 23, 2013 the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) approved the Miami Beach Police Department for re- accreditation with the prestigious recognition of Accreditation with Excellence. In 2009 CALEA awarded the Miami Beach Police Department the Flagship designation. CALEA renamed its Flagship designation to Accreditation with Excellence, and enhanced the stringent award criteria and application process. With this enhanced award, the Miami Beach Police Department is again a member of an elite group comprised of fewer than ten percent of all accredited agencies nationwide. As part of the Re- Accreditation and Accreditation with Excellence process, Chief Martinez and his Accreditation Team were required to present documented proof of the Agency's dedication and adherence to Agency policy and its commitment to the community. Chief Martinez and the Accreditation Team appeared before a committee of CALEA Commissioners to answer numerous questions concerning agency operations, administration, and community interests. As an Accredited Agency with Excellence, the Miami Beach Police Department is recognized for continually demonstrating excellence in its commitment to the CALEA Accreditation process and its commitment to the City of Miami Beach, its residents, visitors and neighboring agencies. Please join me in congratulating and commending the Miami Beach Police Department on this tremendous accomplishment. If you have any questions, please let me know.
