SUBJECT: Alton Road —43'd Street to Eas of Allison Road
The purpose of this LTC is to inform you that FDOT will be contacting you about a project on
Alton Road that is planned for construction in 2017. Following these briefings, FDOT plans to
conduct a community workshop.
BACKGROUND
FDOT is preparing to reconstruct Alton Road between 43rd Street and the bridge just east of
Allison Road to bring it up to new construction standards. Between 43rd Street and Pine Tree
Drive, the project proposes to:
• add bike lanes
• widen the parking lane from 7 feet to 8 feet
• reduce the travel lanes from 11 feet to 10 feet
• narrow the median from 11.5 feet to 6 feet
• narrow the swales from 7 feet to 6.5 feet
Between Pine Tree Drive and the bridge, the project proposes to reduce the inside travel lanes
to 10 feet and to provide 12-foot outside travel lanes with sharrows.
The cost of these improvements is estimated to be $11.7 million.
