SUBJECT: TRANSMITTAL OF CITY OF DORA RESOLUTION NO. 13-73 IN SUPPORT OF
CUBAN REFUGEES DETAINED IN THE BAHAMAS.
This LTC is to inform you that the City of Doral adopted on June 25, 2013, Resolution No.
13 -73, voicing support for the Cuban refugees detained by the Government of the Bahamas;
denouncing their abuse, demanding a halt to all mistreatment, and calling for their humane
treatment; requesting the U.S. Department of State and U.N. Commission on Human Rights
to investigate the treatment of the refugees, support their designation 'as political refugees,
and grant them political asylum.
The City of Doral requests that Miami Beach consider and support' a similar resolution.

A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF DORAL, FLORIDA VOICING SUPPORT FOR THE
CUBAN REFUGEES DETAINED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF THE .
BAHAMAS; DENOUNCING THEIR ABUSE, DEMANDING A HALT
TO ALL MISTREATMENT, AND CALLING FOR THEIR HUMANE
TREATMENT;, REQUESTING THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
AND U.N. COMMISSION ON HUMAN' RIGHTS TO INVESTIGATE
THE..TREATMENT ' OF THE REFUGEES, SUPPORT THEIR
DESIGNATION AS POLITICAL REFUGEES, AND GRANT THEM
POLITICAL ASYLUM; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
DATE
WHEREAS, recently a group of Cuban refugees seeking freedom frorri the brutal
and repressive Castro regime made landfall in the Bahamas; and
WHEREAS, the refugees, were taken into .custody by the government of the
Bahamas and are currently at risk of repatriation to Cuba notwithstanding the fact the
refugees have•publicly -stated that they fear for their well -being if they were to return to
Cuba; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Doral desire to voice their
solidarity with the refugees and request that the U.S. Department of State and .U.N.
Commission on Human Rights intervene on behalf of the refugees.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DORAL, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Recitals. The above recitals are true, correct, and - incorporated
herein by this reference. .
Section 2. Statement of Solidarity. The City Council hereby voices ,its support
for the Cuban refugees detained by the government of the Bahamas; denouncing their
abuse, demanding a halt to all mistreatment, and Calling for their humane treatment.
The City Council also hereby requests the U.S. Department of State and U.N.

Commission on. Human Rights to investigate' the treatment of the refugees, support
their designation as political refugees, and grant them political asylum: The City Clerk is
directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and
U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki -moon.
Section 3. Grievances. Grievances concerning the mistreatment of the.Cuban-
refugees by the government of the Bahamas may be directed to:
