2012-27906 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 2012-27906 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY - OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, WAIVING SPACE RENTAL CHARGES AT THE COLONY THEATRE, FOR THE FILM LIFE FOUNDATION, A NON-PROFIT WHICH IS PRODUCING THE AMERICAN BLACK FILM FESTIVAL, JUNE 20—23, 2012. WHEREAS, the American Black Film Festival is an independent film festival that focuses primarily on works by Black members of the film industry; and WHEREAS, established in 1997, the core mission of the festival is to showcase quality Black films and promote cultural diversity in front of and behind the camera; and WHEREAS, the Festival is held annually in Miami Beach and features full-length narratives, short films, mobile entertainment, and documentaries, all by and/or featuring Black writers, directors, actors, and actresses; and WHEREAS, over the course of the Festival, there are numerous events held throughout the City including an opening ceremony, three days of screenings, actors' and directors' workshops and symposiums, as well as an awards ceremony; and WHEREAS, attract top-tier talent and approximately 5,000 festival goers to the annual event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby waive space rental charges at the Colony Theater for the Film Life Foundation, A Non-Profit which is producing the American Black Film Festival, June 20 -23, 2012.
