Morales, City Manager DATE: July 18, 2013 SUBJECT: Southeast Florida Sediment Avail ility and Needs Determination (SAND) Report The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide information about the upcoming public meeting with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ( USACE) regarding the Southeast Florida Sediment Availability and Needs Determination (SAND) Report. The meeting is scheduled for August 12, 2013 at 6:30 PM in the City Commission Chambers. The Florida Department of Transportation and USACE jointly prepared the SAND Report to assess Southeast Florida's sand availability and needs for the next 50 years. The SAND Report is available for your review at the following link: http: / /www.sai.usace.army.mil/ Missions/ CivilWorks /ShoreProtection.aspx The USACE will be holding a series of public meetings the week of August 12 in St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward and Miami -Dade counties to provide details of potential offshore borrow sources which may be considered for use on the Miami Dade County Shore Protection Project. The purpose of these meetings is to allow the public to provide comments and ask questions as needed. Selected City staff will attend the public meetings in the other four counties to represent the City's interest for the State and USACE to timely secure offshore borrow sources to ensure that our future sand needs are met.
