Morales, City Manager DATE: August 21, 2013 SUBJECT: 2013 Family & Community Servic Day The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to invite you to the Second Annual Miami Beach Service Day on Saturday, September 28 from 9am to 1 pm at North Shore Open Space Park. This annual community service event engages residents and businesses in projects that enhance local parks, restore sand dunes crucial to our coastal environment, and promote intergenerational programming while introducing participants to free services and resources available throughout the City by participating Miami Beach Service Partnership agencies. This year's service learning projects include: • Dune restoration and beach clean -up • Cross- generational (youth & seniors) recreational activities • Expansion of butterfly gardens • Tree planting and non - native plant removal • Cleanliness and litter abatement efforts • Community beautification plantings • Graffiti removal projects This year's event is sponsored by the City's Office of Community Services, Parks & Recreation Department, Environmental Management Office, and Communications Office, in collaboration with member agencies of the Miami Beach Service Partnership. In addition, the event will offer information on a variety of community -based services including job training, counseling, youth development programs, educational support, health care services, and food banks, among others.
