Morales, City Manager DATE: October 1 2013 C=) SUBJECT: -BEACH CORRIDOR TRANSIT C NNECTION STUDY FTI co The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide an update on the ongoing Beach Corridor Transit Connection Study. The study is a joint effort between the Miami -Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Florida Department of Transportation, Miami- - .. Dade Transit, City of Miami Beach, City of Miami, and the Miami Downtown Development --- Authority. - On September 3, 2013, a consultant selection committee comprised of a representative from each participating agency selected Gannet Fleming as the top- ranked proposer among five general planning consultant firms that submitted technical proposals for the study. As such, the MPO has awarded the contract to conduct the Beach Corridor Transit Connection Study to Gannett Fleming. The study is expected to take nine (9) to twelve (12) months to complete and cost approximately $325,000. As part of the study process, the MPO intends to comprise a Policy Executive Committee (PEC) and a Technical Steering Committee (TSC). The two committees will meet several times throughout the study process and are intended to guide the study process through critical milestones and serve as a tool for the coordination of technical and policy matters and decisions. The Beach Corridor Transit Connection Study commenced in September 2013 and the study team i's in the process of collecting data, organizing committee structures, sending out invitation letters, and securing meeting dates and locations for the PEC and TSC. The MPO is working towards holding the first PEC and TSC meetings this month. The meeting locations will be - rotated through the different agencies with Miami Beach potentially hosting the second meeting. On October 2, 2013, the study team will be present at the City of Miami Beach Transportation and Parking Committee (TPC) to present the scope of the study, provide current status and obtain input from the TPC. The study proposal by Gannett Fleming outlines that up to 24 meetings will be held, including four (4) meetings of the TSC, four meetings (4) of the PEC, eight (8) meetings with MPO, cities, and other bodies (including the City's TPC), and eight (8) meetings with community stakeholders and group presentations (chambers of commerce, HOAs, etc.). In addition, the Administration has requested to attend all progress meetings and that the MPO provide regular updates on the overall progress of the study on a monthly basis.
