SUBJECT:_ STATUS_ OF .COMMISSION OINTMENTS TO THE BICYCLE- PEDESTRIAN
FACILITIES ADVISORY COMMIT
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide a status on the appointments and vacancies on
the City's Bicycle- Pedestrian Facilities Advisory Committee ( BPFAC). At this time, four (4)
T - appointments have been made by various Commissioners and three (3) vacancies remain. Please see
attached report from the City Clerk's Office for a status of committee vacancies and potential
candidates for appointments. In light of several important bicycle and pedestrian projects and initiatives
affecting the City, including an update to the City's bicycle master plan and an impending citywide
bicycle safety education campaign, it is imperative that this Committee be fully comprised in order to
hold its first meeting and begin advising the Administration and Commission on bicycle and pedestrian
matters.
By way of background, at its January 16, 2013 meeting, the City Commission approved a Resolution
changing the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Bikeways Committee to a permanent committee entitled the Bicycle-
Pedestrian Facilities Advisory Committee. The purpose of the BPFAC is to improve the lives of
residents and visitors by promoting the development, sound management and use of public facilities
dedicated to bicycles and pedestrians in the City of Miami Beach and to make recommendations, as
appropriate, to.the City Commission and the City Administration.
The powers and duties of the Committee shall be to provide advisory recommendations regarding the
use, operation, management, and development of public bicycle and pedestrian facilities to the City
Commission for such action as the City Commission may deem appropriate. The Committee shall be
composed of seven (7) members, each of whom shall be a voting member who has demonstrated a
high degree of interest, participation, and /or expertise in matters relating to facilities for bicycles and
pedestrians - in the City. The Mayor and City Commissioners shall each make one direct appointment
to the committee.
