LTC# LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and M mbers of the ity Commission FROM: Jimmy Morales, City Manager DATE: October 9, 2013 SUBJECT: Prior Year After School, 2013 Su mer Camp and Current After School Enrollment Overview This Letter to Commission is provided to share with you information regarding our after school program for the last school year and the results of our recent summer camp program. During the 2012-2013 school year,our After School Program,which operates Monday to Friday,from-2-6 pm, had an average of 1,005 participants enrolled quarterly. Our After School children receive homework assistance, partake in physical fitness and various games to keep healthy and fit and also participate in many other enrichment and social activities. The children are provided with free transportation from Biscayne, Treasure Island, South Pointe, Fienberg Fisher and North Beach Elementary Schools, along with Nautilus Middle School. The City provided 83% of the quarterly participants (833) with full, partial scholarships or sibling discounts. Currently we have 1,039 participants enrolled in our 2013 Fall After School Program. This summer,our camps serviced 2,568 campers up from the previous summer where we serviced 2,561 participants. Among the many activities, campers enjoyed swimming, ice-skating, and of course their yearly participation in the Playground Revue. Of these participants, 1,391 were day campers, 73% of which(1,015)received full or partial scholarships. The other 1,177 children registered for one or more of our 22 different specialty camps offered, including Ice Skating, Dance, Fine Arts&Acrylics, Beach Bum, Kayak, Aquatic Life/Nature, Fishing, Tennis and all sports,just to name a few.
