Morales, City Manager DATE: January 13, 2014 SUBJECT: Parks and Recreation to host bullyi g events with local agencies You are cordially invited to attend and participate in our upcoming Anti-Bullying events to be held at 10 AM on January 17, 2014 at The North Shore Park Youth Center (501 72nd Street) and on February 7, 2014 at the Scott Rakow Youth Center(2700 Sheridan Ave). The City of Miami Beach Parks & Recreation Department tackled bullying behavior by previously hosting an anti-bullying teen summit. The event provided 170 Teens the opportunity to engage in activities that were interactive and proactive in increasing awareness, reducing delinquent behavior, and fostering a more positive and conducive culture among teenage youth Due to its success, the City of Miami Beach Parks and Recreation Department is expanding the anti-bullying initiative by implementing a modified curriculum to fit all ages. The event will give the City the opportunity to combine forces with such agencies as the Miami Beach Coalition, Ayuda and The Anti-Defamation League. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear guest speakers, see theatrical performances and be a part of an interactive workshop suitable for youth of all ages. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a leading provider of anti-bias education in the U.S., will provide presentations focused on its popular and successful anti-bullying and anti-cyber bullying "No Place for HateV initiative. Bullying has become a habitual global problem, increasing throughout our schools and youth organizations.The City of Miami Beach along with its partnering agencies has made it their goal to campaign against bullying by promoting awareness to its youth.
