Pandemic Preparedness 10222014C ITYWIDE PS UBLICAFETY PP ANDEMICREPAREDNESS PURPOSE MISSION& Mission: ToensuretheCity’sreadinesstoprotectourresidents,businesses, employeesandvisitorsagainstthethreatfrompandemic incidents/diseases,andtoensureourfirstrespondersare appropriatelytrainedandequippedtosafelydetect,protectand respondtopandemicincidents. Purpose: OurCity’spopulationismadeupofatransient,international demographicthatexposesustoglobalhazardsandthreats.This proposalrecommendsaplanforthestepsneededtosuccessfully addressapandemicincidentwithinourcommunity. STEPS Detection Protection Response DETECTION Target Audience: Citywide, all Departments • Focus on all first responders, to include Fire Rescue, Police, Code Enforcement, & all those in daily contact with the public Method: • Coordination of Information • Public Safety Communications Unit (PSCU) –pre-screening •First Responders –initial assessment • Collaboration with healthcare agencies on local, state, and federal level PROTECTION Target Audience: Citywide, all Departments •General Awareness for all City Employees • Enhanced Protection focused on first responders & Pandemic Response Team Method: • Awareness Training Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) training  • Enhanced Training Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) training  • Exercises •Communication: • PSCU • Duty Officer • CodeRed PROTECTION cont’d Training •In-house training –within 6 months • Contract training –within 3 months Level 1 –all City Employees • Standard Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) Awareness training, to include protocol on donning and removal of PPE Level 2 –First Responders • Enhanced Training enhanced & advanced PPE training  •Pandemic & Exposure Exercise with Mt.
