ROAD - UPCOMING CLOSURE F NORTHBOUND ALTON ROAD FROM 5TH TO
6TH STREETS, AND WEST AVENUE AT 14TH STREET
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide Florida Department of
Transportation (FDOT) construction project notification of the upcoming full closure of
northbound Alton Road from 5th Street to 6th Street, including 6th Street from Alton
Road to the first alley way to the east (see attached MOT and detour plan). This work is
expected to begin on or about February 23, 2015 and continue through March 20, 2015.
Work to be performed includes full roadway reconstruction, drainage, asphalt, concrete
and utilities. FDOT will continue to provide information pertinent to lane closures if
changes are required.
Additionally, there will be a full closure of the intersection of West Avenue and 14th
Street (see attached detour plan) in order to perform the drainage installation across
West Avenue for the pump station located at 14th Street and the bay. This work is
expected to begin on or about February 23, 2015 and continue for up to 2 weeks. A full
closure will be required due to the amount of work needed to be performed and the
depth of the excavation. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained whenever safely possible.
FDOT will continue to provide information on this project as well.
Variable Message Signs (VMS) and detour signs will be placed by FDOT at key
locations in order to inform motorists of the alternative routes to be used.
