SUBJECT: "Remembering Barbara Medina" Special Event held at the Scott Rakow Youth
Center Ice Skating Rink
The Parks and Recreation Department invites you to join us at the "Remembering Barbara
Medina"special event which will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from noon to 4:00 pm at the
Scott Rakow Youth Center(2700 Sheridan Avenue) ice skating rink. This event will pay tribute
and honor Barbara Medina, a woman who impacted the lives of so many through ice skating.
Barbara Medina first became involved as a parent of a skater at the Scott Rakow Youth Center in
1976 and then worked as a skating instructor for many years. She had the vision and motivation
to create an exceptional ice skating program for children of all ages and skill levels. Her hard
work and dedication built the foundation of the incredible ice skating programs we have today.
On this day, a soft grand opening of the newly renovated ice skating rink will be held and will
include a free ice skating public session and use of the entire facility. On display will be a wall of
memories that will include letters, pictures and stories written by people whose lives were
touched by g Barbara. Light refreshments will be served.
