Subject: FLORIDA LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCREDITATION
This Letter to the Commission is to announce that the Miami Beach Police Department has
been awarded accredited status by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement
Accreditation (CFA). CFA is based in Orlando, Florida and reviews all aspects of an
agency's policies and procedures, managment, operations, and support services to
determine compliance with 260 recognized standards of excellence. CFA Commission
Chairman Jerry Blough formally presented the Certificate of Accreditation to Chief Don De
Lucca on October 10, 2001, at the Commission's fall meeting held in Cocoa Beach,
Florida.
Undergoing the voluntary state accreditation process provides an agency with a "quality
assurance review" and encourages intense self-scrutiny, resulting in more efficient and
effective daily operations. Becoming accredited by CFA is considered a significant
accomplishment and this status is held in high esteem by the criminal justice community.
To demonstrate the significance ofthis accomplishment, there are only 84 law enforcement
agencies in the State who are accredited by CFA. Of that 84, only 34 or 40% have both
CALEA and CFA Accredited status. This clearly puts our Police Department among the
elite not only in Florida but also in the entire country.
Please join me in congratulating Chief De Delucca and all the fine men and women of his
Department for this fine accomplishment.
