NEW PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT/PAL. AFTER-SCHOOL
PROGRAMS AT FLAMINGO PARK
Subject:
This Letter to the Commission is to inform you that the City of Miami Beach Parks and
Recreation Department and the Police Athletic League began after school programs for
children in kindergarten through sixth grades, at the Flamingo Park/PAL building on
Monday October 15, 2001.
This new program is a direct result of requests by our residents for increased service that
can not be met by the Boys and Girls Club, which historically has been the provider for this
type of service. Please note as indicated in the attached correspondence, the Boys and
Girls Club program was filled to capacity much sooner than they had anticipated and as a
result, the Boys and Girls Club administration welcomes the City to provide this after school
care program at the PAL building. We are confident that working in cooperation with the
Boys and Girls Club, the youth of our City will be better served.

financial and limited space do not allow us to enroll additional children in our after school care
program at the present time. As also discussed in our telephone conversation. we welcome
you to begin a program. I know that the waiting list you have will immediately bring in a great
