SUBJECT:
The purpose of this LTC is to provide the Mayor and Commission with an update
describing some of the areas the Administration focused on during the week of October
15,2001.
Veteran's Day Weekend - Representatives from the Administration met to continue
planning for the free Veteran's Day concert featuring 'NSYNC and various other artists
taking place on Sunday, November 11, 2001. The Administration is going through the
Major Events Plan and implementing the various components of the plan, including the
Goodwill Ambassador program that will use City employees as well as members from
community boards, committees, and organizations; enhanced security and traffic
measures; and working with representatives from the business and residential
communities to ensure that the entire Veteran's Day weekend and free concert are fun
and safe for all who come to the City of Miami Beach. The Administration has been in
communication with representatives from Miami-Dade County to discuss the allocation
of augmented resources and support from the County for this holiday and special event
weekend.
Mix Show Power Summit - Representatives from the Administration continued to work
with organizers of this event which brought about 800 DJ's and representatives from the
recording industry to an annual conference on Miami Beach. The conference, which
started on Wednesday, October 17 and concluded on Saturday, October 20, featured
various associated events at several clubs on South Beach. Police, Code, Parking and
other City Departments enhanced their services to ensure that the events associated
with this conference were all successful.
South Pointe - Representatives from the Administration met with several
representatives from South Pointe to continue discussing various design and
construction related issues.

Design Review Board - Met, discussed and reviewed the beach concession facilities
and approved various issues related to Arts in Public Places.
North Beach Development Corporation - A Board meeting was held and the
members agreed to hold a town meeting to discuss the nnd Street site. Once that date
and those details are finalized, they will be communicated to the Commission.
Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Council - Representatives from the
Administration attended a meeting with representatives from the County, the VCA, and
the Cultural Arts Council to review current and future state funding of cultural arts
groups and to discuss initiatives to enhance funding and attention to cultural
organizations.
Portofino Settlement Agreement - Members from the Administration met with
representatives from the Related Group of Florida, the Marina, Monty's and other
groups to discuss ongoing construction issues related to SSDIN, focusing on completion
of the replacement parking lots on the Alaska Parcel and operations of the parking
facilities afterward.
Citizen's Advisory Committee - Representatives from the Administration attended
this meeting to discuss issues related to the Miami-Miami Beach Transportation
Corridor Study and to provide input to the Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning
Organization (MPO) on the various impacts of a light rail transit connection between the
existing Metrorail/Metromover system in downtown Miami and South Miami Beach.
More information regarding this initiative will be provided to the Commission soon.
Venetian Islands Community Design Review Workshop - Representatives from the
Administration met with about 60 residents of the Venetian Islands to review the
proposed project plans and solicit input from the community on the various CIP related
projects. The consensus of those present was to move forward with the various
planned projects, including the Streetscape project.
