LTC 149-2016 Maurice Gibb Park Boat Ramp MIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER NO. LTC# 149-2016 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Philip Levine and Members • the City Co mission FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager i ,,,,„A DATE: April 4, 2016 SUBJECT: Maurice Gibb Park Boat Ramp In response to the recommendation from the Neighborhood and Community Affairs Committee (NCAC) on January 30, 2015, and subsequent acceptance by Commission on March 11, 2015, the Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with the Parking Department, is working on regulating access to the Maurice Gibb Park Boat Ramp (also known as Purdy Boat Ramp). Historically, the double lane boat ramp at Maurice Gibb Park has been known as a no-fee marine vessel launch facility to which access was unrestricted. In response to numerous complaints to the City concerning both the commercial use of the boat ramp, and conflicts between operators of motorized and non-motorized vessels, NCAC directed Administration to develop and implement a plan to control access to the boat ramp at Maurice Gibb Park and limit its use to City of Miami Beach residents for non-commercial use only. Starting Monday, May 23, 2016, boat ramp parking will be for Miami Beach residents only; non- resident use will be prohibited. The first step in this transition will require residents to register their tow vehicle through the Parking Department. Only vehicles with boat trailers will be allowed to park in the boat ramp parking lot. The metered parking at Maurice Gibb Park will remain available to residents and non-residents. Parks and Recreation will work with the Office of Communications on community outreach efforts. The Parking Department will also post these changes to its website.
