SUBJECT: NORTH MICHIGAN AVENUE ' ANE CLOSURE BETWEEN ALTON ROAD
AND 19 STREET (FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF NEW WATER MAIN
AND SERVICES).
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide information regarding the Lower
North Bay Road (LNBR) Project temporary lane closures on North Michigan Avenue
between Alton Road and 19 Street. The temporary closure will allow for the installation
of a new water main that serves the residents along Michigan Avenue.
Installation of this infrastructure will require a complex dewatering system; large
pumps; tanks and heavy construction machinery that will at times occupy a portion of
the roadway where the lanes have been closed. In order to expedite the construction,
the temporary closure of the southern parking and travel lanes on Michigan Avenue is
necessary. The contractor is scheduled to mobilize during the week of April 11, 2016
to commence the installation of the water main, water services and new fire hydrants;
then the road will be overlaid with asphalt. The temporary lane closure will be in place
until the completion of this work through the end of April 2016. Maintenance of Traffic
(MOT) will be appropriately placed to ensure safe flow of traffic. The roadway will be
resurfaced at a later date.
The Public Information Office has coordinated with the residents, various City
Departments and is distributing the attached Construction Advisory. The Public
