Morales, City Manager VOW DATE: April 27, 2016 SUBJECT: Committee for Quality Education ,otions The Committee for Quality Education would like you to be aware of the following motions requesting support to fund the expansion of enhanced behavioral mental health services at select public schools in Miami Beach and to survey residents regarding interest in bus transportation for those living within two (2) miles of their home school, approved at the April 26, 2016 committee meeting. C: Executive Staff Dr. Leslie R•senfeld, Chief Learning Development Officer City of Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education Meeting of April 26, 2016 Members Present: Beverly Heller, Beth Edwards, Betsy Mateu, Jessica Burns, Tiffany Heckler, Judith Berson-Levinson, Karen Edelstein, Yvette Tache, Elisa Leone, Stewart Turner, and Joshua Levy Members Absent: Jordan Leonard, Rosa Neely, Kayla Rynor, and Ivette Birba Motion made by Beverly Heller Motion seconded by Judith Berson-Levinson Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests that the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission fund the behavioral mental health initiative through the motion made at the April 13, 2016 Commission meeting by Commissioner Steinberg and seconded by Commissioner Aleman and supported unanimously to expand the Nurse Enhancement Initiative to Miami Beach Senior High School, Nautilus Middle School, South Pointe Elementary, Fienberg Fisher K-8 Center, and Biscayne Elementary at $67,000. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0 Motion made by Stewart Turner Motion seconded by Beverly Heller Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests that the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission reach out to Miami-Dade County Public Schools to conduct a survey of Miami Beach public school students to determine interest in bus transportation for those living within two (2) miles of their home school. Question: Would parent(s)/guardian(s) want to participate in having children utilize a school bus service in Miami Beach? The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 11-0
