2016-29412 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 2016-29412 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISISON OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF THIRTY (30) REFURBISHED LAPTOPS VALUED AT $25,470, FROM THE ON IT FOUNDATION, INC., FOR USE BY THE CITY'S OFFICE OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY SERVICES ALL STARS PROGRAM AS A COMPONENT OF ITS SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATHEMATICS (STEM) PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the City received grant funding in the amount of $312,550 from The Children's Trust (Trust) to fund the All Stars Program to serve youth in the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades living in high need neighborhoods within our City; and WHEREAS, in partnership with the Parks and Recreation Department, the City's All Stars Program provides life skills curriculum activities, academic support year-round, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programming, sports, theatre/drama, and service learning projects; and WHEREAS, the On It Foundation, Inc. (Foundation), an existing partner of the City's Office of Housing and Community Services, currently provides Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programming for The Trust-funded All Stars Program; and WHEREAS, the Foundation approached the City with an offer to donate thirty (30) refurbished laptops to benefit the All Stars Program for use during STEM programming; and WHEREAS, the refurbished laptops are valued at $849 each, and include the Microsoft 7 Software update; and WHEREAS, these laptops will be used by All Stars participants as part of the program's STEM curriculum. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and City Commission hereby accept the donation of approximately thirty (30) refurbished laptops, valued at $25,470, from The On It Foundation, Inc., for use by the City's Office of Housing & Community Services All Stars Program as a component of its Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programming.
