Morales, City Manager DATE: July 6, 2016 1 • - SUBJECT: Miami Beach Human Rights Com{ ittee esolutions The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform the Commission of two resolutions passed by the Miami Beach Human Rights Committee at their monthly June committee meeting. Resolution 1: to recommend that the City of Miami Beach Mayor and City Commission amend the Miami Beach Human Rights Ordinance (Ordinance No. 2010-3669) to modify the protected classes status within the ordinance to include the following categories: trade union membership, family situation, health, and political party affiliation. Resolution 2: to recommend that the City of Miami Beach Mayor and City Commission 1) create a public education campaign for the community regarding gender identity issues; 2) enact legislation to require all single use restrooms to be gender neutral and labeled as such; 3) encourage voluntary adoption of a safe space policy based upon gender identity and restroom usage; 4) create an app and/or website to identify where gender neutral restrooms and "safe space restrooms are located. The Miami Beach Human Rights Committee urges the Mayor and Commission to support the aforementioned resolutions.
