SUBJECT: Beach Restoration, Protection .nd Preservation
The purpose of this letter is to inform the Mayor and the Commission that the City of
Miami Beach will be hosting a presentation on September 8, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the
City Manger's Large Conference Room.
In keeping with the intent of the "Mayor's Beach Alliance" to "Restore, Protect, and
Preserve the beaches in Miami Dade County", the presentation will show a process
which is intended to increase the accretion of sand on our shores while deterring
erosion. Invitations have been sent to representatives of all beachfront coastal
municipalities in Miami Dade and supporters of the Mayor's Beach Alliance.
A special guest at this event will be Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, commonly referred to as
Dr. Beach, Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida
International University. Dr. Leatherman is recognized internationally as a premier
authority on the impacts of coastal storms, beach erosion, and the effects of sea level
rise. We will be honored to have him in attendance and he will be available for questions
and/or comments.
