SUBJECT: Dade Boulevard Tree Removal;
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform the City Commission of the upcoming work
along Dade Boulevard between the Venetian Causeway and Alton Road. As part of the Dade
Boulevard Harmonization project, the portion of Dade Boulevard will be raised in elevation from
east of the Venetian Causeway to just west of Alton Road. The proposed elevation on Dade
Boulevard will match the newly raised streets within the current Sunset Harbour Neighborhood
Improvements Project.
There are currently a total of 11 Silver Buttonwood trees on the south side of Dade Boulevard, just
east of the Venetian Causeway. All of these trees will be impacted due to the proposed increase in
the elevation of Dade Boulevard. Unfortunately, the overall condition of the Silver Buttonwood trees
is poor and the probability for survival is minimal if the trees are relocated. This leaves us with the
only option of removal and replacement.
The project will be applying for a City tree removal permit within the next few days. Individual trees
will be tagged in advance of the removal which is expected a few weeks from now. When the Dade
Boulevard project is complete the new replacement trees will be replanted approximately at the
same location.
