SUBJECT: UPDATE ON MIAMI-DAD COUNTY EAST VENETIAN CAUSEWAY
REHABILITATION
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide an update of work to be undertaken by the
Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW), C apital
Improvements Section.
Repairs to the East Bascule Bridge are scheduled to begin on Monday, November 14, 2016, and
will take approximately 45 days to complete. The bridge, however, will reopen for transit and
vehicular access during Art Basel weekend.
During this time; the City of Miami Fire Department will provide Fire and EMS services and City of
Miami Police Department shall provide Police Services to all the islands west of the bridge; some
of them falling under City of Miami Beach territory.
If the Miami Beach Public Safety Access Point (PSAP — Dispatch Center/Alarm Office) receives a
911 call and the address is within the city limits of Miami Beach, the Miami Beach PSAP shall
request Mutual Aid from the City of Miami in the way of a police, fire or rescue dispatch assignment
from the City of Miami. Additional arrangements have been made by the City of Miami Beach to
ensure sanitation and postal services continue uninterrupted during the Venetian Causeway
closure.
