To establish a Time Limit for Vesse s Using the Dock
adjacent to the Dade Boulevard Publix in the Collins Canal
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform you of a Resolution
discussed and approved by the Marine and Waterfront Protection Authority (MWPA) on
Tuesday, November 8, 2016. This resolution is a recommendation to the Commission
regarding the establishment of a time limit for vessels using the dock across from the
Dade Boulevard Publix in the Collins Canal.
The Marine and Waterfront Protection Authority resolution reads as follows:
With the coming of our transient cruising season and the influx of sailors to our
City, we need to free up space that is now being used by dinghies belonging
to live-aboard vessels, water crafts that are chained to the dock for storage,
and the one vessel that is being used as a live-aboard. Currently the City's
ordinance regarding mooring to or launching from City-owned seawalls cannot
be enforced as this is a City-owned "dock". A time limit should go a long way
to mitigate this problem. We recommend a 3-hour maximum time limit.
Action: Motion for this resolution was made by Dr. Morris Sunshine, seconded by Joel
Aberbach.A(pVote: 12-0) Resolution passed unanimously.
