LTC 490-2016 Budget Advisory Committee Motion MIAMI BEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER NO. LTC # 490-2016 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Philip Levine and Members (I the City Commission FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager DATE: November 14, 2016 SUBJECT:BUDGET ADVISORY COMMITTE MOTION The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform the Mayor and City Commission of a motion passed by the Budget Advisory Committee. The Committee approved a motion in support of the Beach Corridor Connection Project, but recommends that Miami Beach place priority on the completion of the MacArthur Causeway portion of the project, that having greater impact on traffic congestion, and not pursue an interim agreement with the Alstom Group: Greater Miami Tramlink Partnership on a fast track basis. Instead, the Committee believes it would be in the best financial interest of the City of Miami Beach to include the South Beach Light Rail as part of the bid package for the county's Beach Corridor Connection project. This should result in a lower construction cost, provide access to additional funding sources and reduce the risk of technological incompatibility with other sections of the project. The Committee's recommendation was approved unanimously at their November 8, 2016, meeting.
