CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide a construction update related to the
Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) pavement replacement and emergency stopping
site construction project within Miami-Dade County. Although this falls outside the City of Miami
Beach, it will have significant impacts on the causeways.
This project includes the replacement of the concrete driving surface from N.W. 29th Street to
N.W. 79th Avenue and the construction of five emergency stopping sites in the median from N.W.
62nd Street to N.W. 131 th Street (attachment).
Lane closures will take place during non-peak hours and non-event nights and weekends.
Construction of the emergency stopping sites will begin on March 6th, 2017 and will wrap up in
February 2018; and concrete pavement restoration will begin around the end of 2017 and
continue through June 2020.
For driver safety and the safety of others, please use caution when driving, walking or biking
around any construction zone. FDOT will take the necessary steps to reduce construction
effects, but drivers may experience travel lane closures and detours, increased dust and noise,
and workers and equipment moving around the area.
