SUBJECT: Building Department Promotion — 'hief Mechanical Inspector
It gives me great pleasure to announce that on Monday, March 27, 2017, Mariano Fernandez,
Building Director /Official appointed Ms. Laura Ferrer, P.E., C.E.M., as the City of Miami Beach's
Chief Mechanical Inspector. In this traditionally male dominated field, Laura is now the first
woman to ever hold this position in Miami Dade County history.
Laura received her Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from Havana
Technical Institute ISPJAE in July 1995. Laura is also a Certified Energy Manager (C.E.M.) and
has been a member of the Resiliency Strategy Team for the City of Miami Beach since 2016.
Laura worked in various architectural and civil engineering firms as a mechanical engineer and
roadway designer for eight years. She became a Mechanical Engineer (P.E.) in 2008 and
started working at the City of Miami Beach in June 2014 as a Senior Mechanical Inspector and
Plans Examiner.
The City of Miami Beach continues to lead the way in diversity. Laura's dedication,
professionalism and work ethic has continuously demonstrated her ability to lead. Please join
