REPORT (FY2017 -2N° QUARTER)
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to report ridership figures for the City of Miami
Beach Trolley System and Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works
(MDTPW) circulators during the second quarter of Fiscal Year (FY) 2017, from January 1, 2017
to March 31 , 2017 .
As illustrated in the attached ridership report (Attachment A), the North Beach Loop observed
an average daily ridership of 2,332 passengers during this quarter. The overall ridership of the
North Beach Loop service during the second quarter of FY 2017 was 210,363 passengers. This
represents an approximate 8% decrease in ridership over the previous quarter and 2%
decrease in comparison to the same quarter of the previous Fiscal Year (Attachment B). This
decrease can be contributed to the commencement of Collins Link service in December, 2016
since the Collins Link and North Beach Loop overlap for a portion of their routes in North Beach .
The Middle Beach Loop observed an average daily ridership of 3,610 passengers and overall
ridership of 324,931 passengers during the second quarter of FY 2017 .
The Collins Link observed an average daily ridership of 2,706 passengers and overall ridership
of 243,249 passengers during the second quarter of FY 2017 .
The temporary Alton-West Loop observed an average daily ridership of 1,163 passengers and
overall ridership of 1 04 ,581 passengers during the second quarter of FY 2017. This represents
an approximate 2% decrease in ridership over the previous quarter and 1% decrease in
comparison to the same quarter of the previous Fiscal Year.
The City of Miami Beach trolley system provided transit service to a total of 883,124 passengers
during the second quarter of FY 2017. and cumulatively to over 3.8 million passengers from
inception to the end of the second quarter of FY 2017.
In addition to the City's trolley system, the County operates two (2) circulator routes entirely
within City boundaries (the South Beach Local (SBL) and Route 115/117). Ridership totals for
March 2017 have not yet been published by MDTPW. The County ridership figures for the
second quarter will be included in the next quarterly ridership report and issued via LTC. Based
on the first quarter ridership data for FY 2017 , the South Beach Local service experienced an
33% decrease in ridership and Route 115/117 experienced a 40% decrease in ridersh ip as
compared to the fourth quarter of the previous fiscal year (Attachment B).
