Morales, City Manager DATE: April 25, 2017 SUBJECT: Committee for Quality Education Motions The Committee for Quality Education would like you to be aware of the following motions requesting to amend the City's Voluntary Pre -Kindergarten (VPK) agreement with Miami -Dade County Public Schools and support option three (3) from Finance and Citywide Projects Committee Memorandum March 31, 2017 for dedicated millage for public education, approved at the April 25, 2017 committee meeting. C: Executive Staff Dr. Leslie Rosenfeld, Chief Learning Development Officer Attachment KGB/L City of Miami Beach Committee for Quality Education Meeting of April 25, 2017 Members Present: Beverly Heller, Beth Edwards, Kayla Rynor, Karen Edelstein, Ivan Alvarez, Judith Berson -Levinson, Faiza Liban, Betsy Mateu, Yvette Tache, Joshua Levy, Tiffany Heckler, Damond Neely, and Jordan Leonard Members Absent: Jessica Rivero and Stewart Turner, Motion made by Kayla Rynor Motion seconded by Yvette Tache Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission amend the language of the current Voluntary Pre -Kindergarten (VPK) contract with Miami -Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) to require M-DCPS to collect fees for fee -supported children provided their home schools are not Title I schools or they qualify for Head Start. Any fees collected will reduce the City's contribution to the City funded VPK program. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 14-0 Motion made by Beverly Heller Motion seconded by Dr. Judith Berson -Levinson Motion Text: The Committee for Quality Education requests the Miami Beach Mayor and Commission be aware that the Committee prefers Option #3: Dedicated Millage for Public Education, including offset of decrease in debt service millage, with dedicated millage for education, from the Finance and Citywide Projects Committee meeting on March 31, 2017, regarding Education Compact sustainable funding. The Committee for Quality Education urges the Mayor and Commission to support the above request. Motion Passage: Votes 14-0
