SUBJECT: MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BUS STOP REMOVAL
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to report removal of bus stops along Collins Avenue
(State Road AIA) by the Miami -Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works
(DTPW).
On April 20, 2017, local residents at 5005 Collins Avenue made the City's staff aware that on April
30, 2017 fifteen (15) bus stops will be removed along State Road AIA north of 29 Street within the
City limits. Removal notices were placed at bus stops two (2) weeks in advance. Bus stop removal
was planned by DTPW to consolidate bus operations. The County's staff had conducted an
operations analysis to identify actions that would improve reliability and on-time service. The
operations analysis resulted in a recommendation to consolidate bus stops. In addition, the
County's adopted standard calls for no more than 5 stops per mile.
In response to residents' petition, DTPW and City staff collaborated to preserve one (1) bus stop in
the vicinity of 5005 Collins Avenue. Out of fourteen (14) stops, ten (10) were located along
northbound AIA and four (4) were located along, southbound AIA (attachment). None of these bus
stops had a bus shelter and none of the stops along Route 120 (limited stop service) are affected. In
addition, every bus stop removed has an alternative stop (for the County's service) within 300 to 800
feet.
The City of Miami Beach trolley stops are not affected by this stop consolidation. The City's
Transportation Department will monitor potential effects of bus stop removal and will coordinate
necessary modifications with the County, as required.
