LETTER TO COMMISSION
& EMERGENCY STOPPING SITE
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide a construction update related to the
Florida Department of Transportation's (FOOT) replacement of the concrete driving surface from
NW 29th Street to NW 79th Avenue and the construction of five emergency stopping sites in the
median from NW 62nd Street to NW 131 st Street. Although this falls outside the City of Miami
Beach, it will have significant impacts on the causeways.
This project includes the replacement of the concrete surface on northbound and southbound SR
9A/I-95 from NW 29th Street to NW 79th Street; repaving of ramps at NW 69th Street and NW 79th
Street; rehabilitation of bridge joints; enhancement of storm water drainage along project
corridor; and the installation of new signage, lighting and lane striping.
Lane closures for concrete surface replacement will begin this week and will take place during
non-peak hours and non-event nights and weekends. For driver safety and the safety of others,
please use caution when driving, walking or biking around any construction zone. FOOT will
take the necessary steps to reduce construction effects, but drivers may experience travel lane
closures and detours, increased dust and noise, and workers and equipment moving around the
area.

SITES (ESS)
The ESS Project is the construction of five
emergency stopping sites along 1-95 from NW
62 Slreello NW 131 Street Three slopping
sites will be constructed along the northbound
lanes and two along the southbound lanes. The
stopping sites will be located on the inside
shoulder and will be approximately 13 feet wide
and at least 1 ,200 feet in length.

PROJECT AREA
The Pavement Reconstruction Project consists of
replacing the concrete pavement on 1-95 from NW
29 Street to NW 79 Street. The project includes the
repaving of the NW 69 Street northbound entrance
ramp to 1-95 and southbound exit ramp to NW 69
Street. As well as the northbound exit ramp to NW
79 Street and the NW 79 Street entrance ramp to
soulhbound 1-95.
