Ordinance 1496 ORDINANCE NO. 1496 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 789, BEING AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA; ES- TABLISHING OFFICIAL CLASSIFICATIONS OF POSITIONS IN THE CLASSIFIED SERVICE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH; FLORIDA, AND PROVIDING COMPENSATION THEREFOR, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF THE CIVIL SERVICE ACT; AND PROVIDING FOR THE ADMINISTRATION OF THIS ORDI+ NANCE AND REPEALING ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA: SECTION 1: That Section 1 of Ordinance No. 789, being an ordinance of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, establishing official classifications of positions in the classified service of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, and providing compensation therefor, pursuant to the provisions of the Civil Service Act; and providing for the adminis- tration of this ordinance and repealing ordinances in conflict herewith, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 1, The following titles shall constitute the Classification Plan, and the titles together with the prescribed pay schedules, shall constitute the Compensation Plan, both as provided for in the Civil Service Act and the Personnel Rules, for the Classi- fied Service of the City of Miami Beach, Florida. Compensation in the Classified Service after September 30, 1963 shall not be less than the prescribed minimums nor more than the prescribed maximums, except as otherwise provided herein, 1. Any employee who, on September 30, 1963, was entitled to a greater maximum rate of pay than provided by this ordinance, shall retain entitlement to such maximum rate of pay plus an additional five per cent (5/) thereof. " SECTION 3: That Ordinance No. 789 be and the same is hereby amended to add a new section thereto to be numbered and to read as follows: "Section 1.2. (a) When an employee shall have completed ten years employment he shall, if the base pay he is receiving is one of the rates listed in Section 1.2 of this ordinance, be advanced to one step above his base rate. When an employee shall have completed ten years employment he shall, if the base pay he is receiv- ing is not one of the rates listed in Section 1.2 hereof, be paid a sum equal to five per cent (5/) of his base pay in addition to the amount he is paid under Section 1 or Section 1.1 hereof. (b) When an employee shall have completed fifteen years employment, he shall, if the base pay he is receiving is one of the rates listed in Section 1.2 of this ordinance, be advanced to one and one-half steps above his base rate. When an employee shall have completed fifteen years employment he shall, if the base pay he is receiving is not one of the rates listed in Section 1.2 hereof, be paid a sum equal t4 seven" and pne-half 063r `dent (71-2%) of his base pay in addition to the amount he is paid under Section 1 or Section 1.1 hereof. (c) When an employee shall have completed twenty years employment, he shall, if the base pay he is receiving is one of the rates listed in Section 1.2 of this ordinance, be advanced to two steps above his base rate. For provisions of this section, length of employment shall include all time spent as an employee in the Clas$ified Service regardless of status for which compensation has been paid and time while on approved military leave for service in the Armed Forces of the United States, provided, however, that in the event an employee is absent from his duties because of service- connected injury, for which Workmen' s Compensation is payable, is certified by the City Physician to be physically able to return to his duties, and fails so to do, the period between such certification and the employee's actual return to his duties shall not be deemed to be service time within the meaning of this sub-paragraph. " SECTION 5 : All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 6 : This ordinance shall become effective October 1, 1963.
