Ordinance 1581� � � ORDINANCE NO, 1581 AN ORDI�TANCE AMENDING ARTICLE IV OF CHAPTER 2 OF THE C4DE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLQRIDA. . �t r BE IT ORDAIN�ED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA: SECTION l. That Section 2.52 of The Code of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, be axnended by adding an additional paragraph thereto to read as follows: "(d}. Any employee, retirant, pensioner or dependent who is a member of the City of Miami Beac% Employees' Benefit Plan and who is age 65 or over on or before July 1, 1966 and who is eligible for the benefits of that certain health and welfare plan of the United States Government commonly known as Medicare, Parts A and �, or who, had he or she registered for such Medicare benefits on or before March 31, 1966 would have been eligible for such benefits effective July l, 196b, shall continue to receive the benefits of "The City of Miami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan", in the following manner: " (1) A1.1 hospitalization, medical and surgical benefits as prescribed for all regular employees of the City of Miami Beach participating in the City of Miami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan shall continue to be furnished to such employees, retirants, pensioners and dependents age 65 and over, except that such coverage shall be limited to the difference between the benefits allowable through Medicare, Parts A and B, and the maximum benefits payable under the then current City of Miami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan.�' SECTION 2. That Section 2.55 of The Code of t�e City of Miami Beach, Florida, 1964 be and the same is hereby amended by adding two additional paragraphs thereto to read as follows: "(c�. The contribution of those employees, retirar�ts, pensioners and dependents age 65 and over� eligible for medicare benefits and who are m.embers of the City of Miami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan shall be one-half the cost of the benefits provided for in the said City of Miami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan for those employees, retirants, pensioners and dependents age 65 and over, eligible for Medicare benefits as such costs are determined by the governing board, plus one-half the cost of the contribution for Medicare benefits, but in no event shall such total contribution exceed the contribution of inembers of the City of �tiami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan who are not eligible for Medicare benefits and have a similar agreement for individual membership or for a family basis. "(d) . The contribution of the City on behalf of the members of the City of Miami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan age 65 and over and eligible for Medicare benefits shall be one-half the cost of the benefits provided for in the agreements as such costs are determined by the governing board plus one-half -1- OFPlCE OF CITY ATTORNEY - 1130 WASHINGTON AVENUE - MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA 33139 � � I �/ •�► � � � �P "the cost of contribution for Medicare benefits but in no event shall the total of such contribution by the City exceed the amount of contribution respectively for any other agreements under the City of Miami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan which covers members only who are not eligible for Medicare benefits or which covers members and their families, none of whom are eligible for Medicare benefits," SECTION 3. '� amended by f Oa.�.OWS : That Section 2.53 of The Code of the City of Miami Heach, Florida, 1964, be and the same is hereby adding an additional paragraph thereto to read as �' (e) . In order to be eligible for Medicare benefits at the first possible date of July l., 1966, eligible members of the City of Miami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan who shall be age 65 or over on July l, 19b6 must register for Medicare benefits at any Social Security Administration Office on or Before March 31, 1966, or lose a portion of the benefits under the City of Miami Beach Employees' Benefit Plan." SECTION 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith �be and the same are hereby repealed. SECTION 5. The health and welfare of the City being in peril, the three re�dings of this ordinance sha11 be had in one session and the City Council finding that this ordinance is necessary for the immediate protection of its citizens, it shall therefore go into effect immediately upon its passage.
