AN ORDINANCT AMENDING ARTICLE IV OF
CHAPT�R 2 OF TI� CODE QF THE CITY QF
MIAMI H�ACH, FLORIDA.
B� =T ORDAINED BY THE CIT� COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI�HEACH,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. TMat Section 2.52 of 1'he Code of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, be a�nended by adding an additional
paragraph thereto to read as follows:
"(d). Any emplo3tee, retirant, penaioner or
dependent who is s member of the City of A�ia�i Beaeh E�aployee�t
Benefit �lan and who is age 65 or over on or before July 1, 1966
and who ia eligible for the benefite of that certain health and
welfare plan af the United Sta�ea Q�overnment commonly known as
Mediaare, Farts A and B, or who, had he or she re istered for
such Medicare benefits on or before March 31, 196� would have
been eligible for such benefits effective July 1, 1g66, shall
conti.nue to receive the benefits of The City of Miami Beach
Employees� 8enefit Plan", in the follawin� manner:
"�1� All hospltalization, medical and
surgical benefit$ a$ prescribed for all regular employees of
the City of M1ami Beach particfpating in tbe Citq of Miami Beach
Employ�eest Benefit Plan shall continue to be furnished to such
employees, retirants, pensionera and dependents age 65 and over!
except th�t auch coverage shall be limited to the difference
between the benefits allowable through Medicare, Parts A and B,
and the maximum benefits payable under the then eurrent City of
MiaYni Beach Emploqees' Benefit Fl�n.
SECTI4N 2. That Section 2,55 of The Code of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, 196� be and the same is hereby
smended by adding two addit3onal paragraphs thereto to read
as follows : "
"(c). The contribution of �hose employees, retirants,
pens�.aners and dependents age 65 and over, eligible for medicare
benefit$ and who are member� of the City of 1�3.ami Beach Employees t
Benefit Plan $hall be one-half the cost of the benefits provided
f`or in the said City of Miami Be�,ch Emp2oyee�� Benefit Plan for
those employees, retirants, pensioners and dependents age 6� and
over, eligible for Medicare benefit� as such costs are determined
by the governing board, plus one-half the cost vf the contribution
Por Medicare benefits, but in no event shall such total
contribution exceed the contribution of �nembers of the City oP
Mia�i Seach Employeest $enefi� Plan who are not eligible for
Medicare benefits and i�ave a similar agreement for lndividual
membership or for a family basis.
"(d). The eontribution of the City on behalf of
the members of the C�.ty of Miaxni Beach Employees' � Benefit Plan
a�e 65 snd over and eligible for Medicare beneiits shall be
one-half the eost of the benefits provided For in the agreements
as auch costs are determined by the governing board plus one-half
the cost of contribution for N�edicare benefits but in no event
ahall the total of such contribution by the Gity exceed the
amount of contribution respectively for any other agreements
under the City o�' Miami Beach Employee8t Benefit Plan which
covers member� only who are not eligible for Medicare benefits
or which covers members and their families, none of whom are
eligible fox* l�edicare benefits.

SECTION 3. That Section 2.53 of The Code of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, 1g6�, be and the same is hereby
amended by adding an additional paragraph thereto to read as
follows:
"(e ), In order to be eligible for Meclieare benefits
at the first possible date of July 1, 1g 66, eligible membexs of
the Ci�y of Miami Beach Employeest Benefit Plan who shall be
age 65 or over on July 1, 1966 must re�ister for Medicare
ber�efits at any Social Security Administration Office on or
before March 31, 1q�6, or lose a portion of the benefits under
the City of Miami Beach Employees� Benefit Plan."
SECTION �. All ordinances or parts of ordinance� in conflict
� herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTI4N 5. This ordinance shall go into eff�ct immedia,tely
upon its passage and posting as required b� law.
