ORDINANCE NO. 1654
AN ORDII�TANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 10 OF "THE
CODE OF THE CITY OF A�tIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA"
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDAo
SECTION l: That Section 10-23 of Chapter 10 of "The Code of
the City of Miami Beach, F lorida �' be and the same
is hereby amended by adding thereto two new subsections, to be
numbered and to read as �ollo�so
"SECTION 10-23.1 Registration, special armed service
preregistration book.
' Any person subject to be called for military duty in
the service of his country who has received orders or
inductian papers, or is already inducted or enlisted,
� and is a citizen of the state and under the age of
twenty-one years, and who wi11 be eligible to vote in
any Ciiy election when he reaches the age of twenty-
one years, may make application to the supervisor of
registration of the City of Miami Beacho presenting
: at the time evidence to show that he is about to be
inducted into the military servicep has received
' orders to report, or is already inducted or enlisted
into the armed service, and enter his name on a spe-
cial registrativn book in the office of the Super-
visor of registration b�► filling out the following
affidavite

upon oath says that he is a citizen of the United
States; that he is about to be called into the mili- j
tary service of his country; that he is now
years of age; that his legal residence is

County, State of Florida; that he will be twenty-one
years of age on the ______ day of , 19 ___
and will then be eligible to vote iz� election precinct
No. , of the City of Miami Beach; that he may
not be able to appear personally and register when he
becomes twenty-one years of age because of abse�ce
from the state on military dut�; that he is not and
will not be regist�red in an�r o�her city, county or

the registration books of his precinct when he
becomes twenty-one years of age; that his pre-
cinct and the date he beComes twenty-one years
of age are correctly recited herein, and that
this application and affidavit are made for this
purpose and no other purposes.

Supervisor of Registration'
Upon filing the application and affidavit the super-
visor of registration shall hold such application and
affidavit until the applicant becomes twenty-one years
of ag�. When such applicant has attained the age of
twenty-one years and i� eligib le to vote, the super-
v�.sor of registration is directed to enter such appli-
cation on the legal registration books of the City,
and forward to such applicant a certificate of regis-
tration which shall be evidence of his official reg-
istration to vote in City eiectionsa
The super�isor of registration shall keep a separate
armed service special preregistration book in which
only the names of inembers of the armed services who
register under this special provision prior to induc-
tion or after induction and prior to becoming twenty-
one years of age, shall be enteredo Registration in
this special armed service preregistration book shall
be sufficient registration when the registrant be-
comes twenty-one years of age, and upon receipt of
the certificate of registration to vote registrarit
shall be qualif ied as any Qther regularly registered
e lector.
SECTION 10-23.2 Armed services absentee registration
(1) Members of
vice, and their
absentee,
the armed forces, while in active ser-
spouses, shall be entitled to register
(2) The federal postcard application, as provided by
federal law, shall be aecepted as a request far an
application for absentee registration when duly exe-
cuted by members of the armed forces and their spouses
living outside the territorial limits of the state
who are residents af the City of Miami Beach, County
of Dade and State of Flo�ida and are not registered.
(3) Upon receipt of the duly executed federal
postcard applicatian as provided for by this

section, the supervisor of registration shall mail
to the applicant an application for absentee
registration if the appliCant has never registered
in the city or if the applicant has been reqistered
but failed to �eregistero
(4) The application for absentee registration
shall be of the following form:

having been passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, has been posted by me in three conspicuous
places in the City of Miami Beach, one of which was at the door
of the City Hall in said City on the 20th day of July, 1967,

thirty days in accordance with the requirements of the City Charter
