13051 RESOLUTION NO. 13051
WHEREAS, the UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI has requested
the City of Miami Beach to enter into a certain Agreement
pertaining to a "College Work - Study Program" , pursuant
to the provisions of Title I, Part C of the Economic Oppor-
tunity Act of 1964, whereby said UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI agrees
to make available to the City the services of students
furnished by the University in the performance of certain
work for the City. The number of such students, the nature
of the services to be rendered, and the compensation to
be paid them by the City, to be hereafter determined by
mutual agreement; and
WHEREAS, like and similar Agreements have been
submitted by MIAMI DADE JR. COLLEGE to the City for like
execution, said Agreements providing for the employment
of not more than ten (10) students as Police Cadets at a
rate of $1.80 per hour for work performed during the first
year of employment, and $2. 00 per hour for work performed
during the second year of employment, and also not more
than fourteen (14) students as Recreation Leaders at like
compensation; and
WHEREAS, said agreements specifically provide
that the work to be performed by said students will be
work which would not otherwise be provided, and will not
displace employed workers, and similar clauses protective
of the personnel presently employed by the City; and
WHEREAS, said agreements further provide that
the City shall pay to the said educational institutions
as its share of the wages 100% of the non-Federal share
of student compensation; and
WHEREAS, said COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
deems it to the best interests of the City and its resi-
dents that said agreements be entered into;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, that the Mayor and the
City Clerk and Finance Director be and they are hereby
authorized and directed to execute and deliver the said
Agreement with the said UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI, and the said
two Agreements with MIAMI DADE JR. COLLEGE, and that the
proper Finance Officers of the City be and they hereby
are authorized and directed to make the payments of compen-
sation called for under said Agreements.
