13148 RESOLUTION NO. 13148 WHEREAS, HONORABLE GORDON T. BUTLER has announced his retirement as the Executive Secretary of the Florida League of Municipalities in May, 1970 after nineteen years of continuous uninterrupted service to the cause of all municipalities in the State of Florida, and to the Florida League of Municipalities, and WHEREAS, his retirement is endurable only for the reason that it affords an opportunity and a vehicle to express, in some small measure, the depth and extent of the profound sense of appreciation and indebtedness which every municipality and every public officer and official connected with each and every one of the municipalities in the State of Florida for the service rendered them through the devotion and tireless energy expended by the said HONORABLE GORDON T. BUTLER to their cause, and WHEREAS, there is no one person to whom the Florida League of Municipalities owes more for its creation, its being, and its accomplishments than to the said HONORABLE GORDON T. BUTLER, and WHEREAS, his skill , knowledge and experience was matched only by his gracious and generous grant thereof to all who sought the same, and WHEREAS, much legislation in the State of Florida beneficial to the municipalities of the State was enacted with his active support and encouragement, and WHEREAS, no Bill or Act detrimental to the interests of the municipalities of the State of Florida and their citizens escaped his relentless extirpation thereof, and WHEREAS, his commanding presence in the Rotunda of the State Capitol evoked the respect and admiration of all who observed and held converse with him, and WHEREAS, his name and figure in Tallahassee was synonomous and symbolic of the integrity of man and his word, and WHEREAS, the CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, its Mayor and Councilmen, past and especially those presently holding those offices, have first-hand evidence of the devotion of the said GORDON T. BUTLER to his said cause of advancing the best interests of the municipalities of the State of Florida, and WHEREAS, the CITY OF MIAMI BEACH is particularly grateful and appreciative, and WHEREAS, the CITY OF MIAMI BEACH seeks not only to equal , but to surpass the expression of all other municipalities in their acknowledgment of their indebtedness, gratitude and appreciation to the said GORDON T. BUTLER, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND EACH AND EVERY MEMBER OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that they do hereby express their warm individual and their profound collective appreciation to the said GORDON T. BUTLER for his limitless contributions to the welfare, not only to all of the municipalities of the State of Florida, but to that of the CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the above and foregoing Resolution be spread on the official Minutes of the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, and that a Certified copy of the same be personally delivered to the said HONORABLE GORDON T. BUTLER, during the proceedings of the 1970 Convention of the Florida League of Municipalities with their fervent hope that his retirement marks the beginning, and not the end, of his service to all the people of the great and sovereign State of Florida.
