13225 RESOLUTION NO. 13225
WHEREAS it has come to the attention of the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida that the Honorable
GORDON T. BUTLER passed away on the 9th day of March, 1971, in
Tallahassee, Florida; and
WHEREAS his death constitutes an immeasurable loss
not only to his family but also to the entire State of Florida;
and
WHEREAS it is fit and proper that the City Council of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida pay tribute to the countless
excellencies which characterized the entire life and career of
the said GORDON T. BUTLER; and also to acknowledge its own im-
measurable indebtedness which the City of Miami Beach, together
with all other municipalities in the State of Florida, owe to
the said GORDON T. BUTLER; and
WHEREAS the said GORDON T. BUTLER, during his tenure
of office as President of the Florida League of Municipalities
and during his twenty years of service as Executive Secretary
of the said Florida League of Municipalities, contributed beyond
measure to the advancement of the cause and the betterment of
municipal government in the entire State of Florida; and
WHEREAS during his career and service with the said
Florida League of Municipalities, said GORDON T. BUTLER labored
tirelessly to aid in the passage of numerous measures in the
legislature of the State of Florida of great benefit to the
municipalities of the State of Florida; and
WHEREAS members of the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida are deeply saddened by the untimely death
of the said GORDON T. BUTLER and will long continue to miss his
wisdom, counsel and guidance,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the City Council of said
City, and each and every individual member thereof, do hereby
express their most profound sympathies and their heartfelt con-
dolences to GRACE BUTLER, the beloved widow of the said GORDON
T. BUTLER; his daughter SUSAN; and his son CHARLES, presently
serving in the Armed Forces of the United States.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that an official copy of this Resolution
be transmitted to the said survivors of the said Honorable
GORDON T. BUTLER and that this Resolution be spread on the Public
Records of the City Council of the City of Miami Beach as a lasting

memorial to the said GORDON T. BUTLER and his devoted service
to the cause of the betterment of municipal government in the
State of Florida.
The adoption of the above and foregoing Resolution
was moved by the Honorable D. Lee Powell, a contemporary,
colleague, co-worker and devoted friend of the said GORDON T.
BUTLER.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 10th day of March, 1971 .
