13231 RESOLUTION NO. 13231 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, deems it to be in the best interest of the citizens of the State of Florida, that 18 year old persons be granted the right of suffrage, and franchise in Municipal Elections, in the same and like manner as the Congress of the United States has rendered and conferred said right to 18 year olds in Federal Elections, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA: That the Legislature of the State of Florida be and it is hereby respectfully petitioned to enact, with all reasonable speed, appropriate legislation, and/or to adopt an appropriate Joint Resolution of the House and Senate, to amend the State Constitution, to afford citizens of the State of Florida, the opportunity to vote on a proposed Amendment to the State Constitution authorizing and permitting 18 year old persons to vote in the State, County and Municipal Elections; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this Resolution be transmitted by the City Clerk to the Governor of the State of Florida, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate, and to each and every member of the Dade County Delegation to the State Legislature. The adoption of the foregoing Resolution was moved by Mayor Jay Dermer. PASSED and ADOPTED this 17th day of March, 1971.
